Duong Senis a master artist of traditional lacquer painting in Vietnam. He was born in 1949 in Nghe An, Vietnam's central province and joined the army during the war. He then studied art at Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts University to fulfil his childhood dream of becoming a painter.
Duong Sen has a great passion for traditional lacquer painting, and he has become an inspiration for young artists and is highly respected in the artist community in Vietnam. Duong Sen is famous for portraying Vietnamese ladies with flowers and topics of Vietnam's traditional characteristic. He uses traditional natural pigments and colours.
Duong Sen’s paintings have been collected by Vietnam's Fine Art Museums, Ho Chi Minh City Fine Art Museum, the Art Museum in Taiwan. His paintings are hung in several private collections in Vietnam, the UK, France, USA, Germany, Singapore, Japan, Poland, Hong kong, Taiwan and Canada. His latest solo exhibition (December 2016) to mark his 20 years being an artist was highly regarded. This was also his 20th solo exhibition.
Duong Sen is a Member of the Viet Nam Fine Arts Association and a Member of the Executive Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Fine ArtsAssociation. Duong Sen received several notable prizes: Honorable prize from Philip Morris (1997-2000), Medal for Vietnam’s Fine Arts Career and Medal for Vietnam’s Literature and Arts Career‚ as well as several other prizes for his exhibitions in Vietnam.
