Phuong Binh was born in 1974 in Nghe An, Vietnam into an artist family. Her father, Ngo Tung Vinh  is a well known musician. At the age of ten, Binh enrolled in Nghe An College of Culture and Fine Art for talent students, where she studied art for 7 years.  During 1997-1999, Phuong Binh studied in Hanoi College of Art Education.

In 2003, she enrolled in Vietnam University of Fine Art and earned her Master Degree in Art.  During her career, Phuong Binh won Prize and Certificate of Merit by the National Association of Young Artists, honoured a Certificate of Merit by the Chairman of People’s Committee of Nghe An. Binh had been an art lecturer at Nguyen Trai University until recently she decided to devote all her time as an artist.


Binh’s favourite medium of expression is lacquer, oil and ink on “Dó” paper[1]. She is well known for being one of the pioneers in bringing modern and contemporary contents to the traditional Do paper paintings. Binh has been a rising star of Vietnamese contemporary art. Her newest creation - a trio of abstract sculptures, further evidences the range of her creativity as an artist.

Binh proudly shows her recent creation

​​​​Phuong Binh's favourite topic is nude women. Binh’s works always radiate with charm and the viewer is drawn to listen to the story they are telling. It is about the women's desires and fate. It is the dialogue between now and then, between the modern and tradition.  


Binh was featured in many local and national magazines and newspapers. Her works can be found in several collections in Vietnam and overseas. She is a member of Vietnam Fine Art Association.

[1] world-famous paper hand-made in northern villages of Vietnam from the bark of Dó plant - Rhamnoneuron balansae Gilg. Thanks to its durability, in the past the paper was used by Vietnamese dynasties for records, paintings, books and important documents including the Kings’ wills.
